XPENG Named One of the Most Innovative Automotive Manufacturers

  • Chinese brand shines in the Center of Automotive Management ranking
  • Top innovator among premium brands in autonomous driving and ADAS
  • Podium finish in brand ranking – strong position overall

Munich, July 31, 2024 – XPENG is one of the most innovation-driven automotive manufacturers in the world: In the latest ranking by the Center of Automotive Management (CAM) in Bergisch Gladbach, the young Chinese brand secured several top positions and a class victory.

When it comes to autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), no other premium brand is as innovative as XPENG. Scoring a total of 86 points, the Chinese manufacturer, which entered the German market in May 2024, placed third among the most innovative premium brands – just behind Mercedes and BMW.

In the overall ranking, which includes both mass-market manufacturers and multi-brand groups, the company – founded in 2014 – achieved a strong seventh place.

Among XPENG’s most innovative models, according to CAM, is the large MPV XPENG X9, unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show (this model is not for sale in Germany and is therefore not homologated). Like all XPENG vehicles, it features a fully electric drivetrain. With an innovation score of 42.2 points and numerous driver assistance systems introduced for the first time in this vehicle class, the X9 took second place in its category.

“The results of the CAM innovation study make all of us at XPENG very proud. According to the independent innovation ranking by the respected Center of Automotive Management, our young brand is already one of the most innovative carmakers worldwide,” said Markus Schrick, Managing Director of Xpeng Motors (Germany) GmbH. “These top rankings highlight the impressive quality and progressiveness of our models. This will also help us raise awareness of the brand in Germany and convince customers of our vehicle quality. We warmly invite anyone interested to visit one of our 24 partner locations across Germany and book a test drive.”

Since 2005, the CAM, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Stefan Bratzel, has annually assessed product innovations from global automotive manufacturers. Based on quantitative and qualitative criteria such as maturity level, originality, and customer benefit, an innovation score is calculated and a brand ranking is published. This year, a total of 359 innovations from 27 premium car brands were evaluated across three technological fields: "Electric Drive," "Autonomous Driving & ADAS," and "Infotainment & Connectivity." An additional 124 pre-production innovations and concept studies from premium brands were used to indicate future development trends.
