XPENG G9 Wins Comparison Test by “auto motor und sport”

  • Victory in the showdown of large SUVs from Chinese brands
  • Magazine praises spacious interior, high quality, and strong value-for-money
  • Fast charging and extensive warranty add further appeal

Munich, October 11, 2024 – A triumph in the SUV showdown: The XPENG G9 comes out on top in the latest comparison test by auto motor und sport magazine (Issue 22/2024), beating the Nio EL6 in a head-to-head contest between large Chinese SUVs.

In addition to its spacious interior, high build quality, and comprehensive standard equipment with excellent value for money, it’s the 800-volt technology that helps XPENG’s 4.89-meter flagship clinch victory. “Following the updated Porsche Taycan, the XPENG G9 also breaks the 300-kilowatt barrier – at least temporarily. On average, it charges from 10% to 80% at a rate of 213 kW,” praise the editors. According to internal measurements, 100 kilometers of additional range can be added in just 7 minutes at a DC fast-charging station, while 300 kilometers can be recharged in 23 minutes.

The tested model, the XPENG G9 RWD Long Range (combined energy consumption: 19.4 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; CO₂ class: A), is powered by a 230 kW / 313 hp electric motor delivering power to the rear wheels. Paired with the large 98 kWh battery, the G9 offers a WLTP range of up to 570 kilometers, making it ideal even for long-distance travel – and according to the testers, it stays reliably stable on the road. “Maneuvering is made easier by the multiple camera views,” the magazine notes.

Passengers benefit from well-contoured seats, high-quality materials with plenty of leather, and a large 660-liter trunk. “Front passengers will especially appreciate their own display, which can stream a variety of multimedia apps like Netflix or YouTube. Thanks to a privacy filter, the driver won’t be distracted,” the auto motor und sport testers explain.

The full equipment package – with only special paint and a power-deployable tow hitch as options – contributes to an excellent price-performance ratio. The XPENG G9 also outshines its competitor in terms of warranty: like all XPENG models available in Germany, it includes a seven-year / 160,000-kilometer manufacturer warranty.

The reward: as a first-time entry in this comparison test, the G9 claims an immediate overall victory in the “Made in China” duel. “This first comparison test highlights the outstanding quality of our XPENG models,” says Markus Schrick, Managing Director of Xpeng Motors (Germany) GmbH. “The powerful electric drivetrain, combined with long-range batteries and extremely fast charging capabilities, ensures everyday usability without compromise. On top of that, our smart electric vehicles offer generous space, comprehensive features, and high comfort.” The full results can be found in the current issue 22/2024 of auto motor und sport, published on October 10, 2024.

Expanding Model Range in Germany

The XPENG G9 is the flagship model of the young Chinese brand, which was founded in 2014 and has been available in Germany for only a few months. Customers can choose between rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD), with two long-range battery options: 78.2 kWh and 98 kWh.

In addition to the large SUV, XPENG also offers in Germany the XPENG P7 sports sedan (combined energy consumption: 16.8–19.2 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; CO₂ class: A) and the XPENG G6 SUV Coupé (combined energy consumption: 17.5–17.9 kWh/100 km; CO₂ emissions: 0 g/km; CO₂ class: A).

All models feature full standard equipment, efficient electric drivetrains, ultra-fast charging technology, and include Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality as standard. XPENG vehicles are sold through a growing network of authorized partners.
